QUEEN B’S MATTER

So does Beyonce REALLY matter? The obvious answer is yes, of course. But when you stray from Beyonce’s performance career and focus on her political power, a whole new form of hierarchy arises. Take social media for example… Beyonce has 113 million followers on Instagram with Donald Trump only having 8.6 million. I use the term “only” very lightly. Her rein and hive are more prominent than all those who managed to give the devil his throne as President of the United States, which also gives Beyonce a huge platform to not only blow smoke on her bees and release fire songs but to also shed light onto the political spectrum.

Beyonce’s website shows a page with her hashtag “#BEYGOOD” which has a long scrolling list of all her involvements in political issues.

It can be found at this link: #BEYGOOD

The topics that are most apparent are issues around “Black Lives Matter” and the education of Black History. For example, within Beyonce’s Super Bowl performance, all of her backup dancers wore black clothing, afros and black berets to symbolise the Black Panther Party of the 1960’s who were a political organisation that aimed to diminish police brutality. The political stance that Beyonce made during this performance was that police brutality is still among the black community and the re-ignition of the stances that the Black Panther Party had is something to welcome.

She has made the effort to go and be the influence to the people who need her and her platform to reach out for more help and more money to fund a political protest. This differs from the way that government parties distribute their opinions and laws as Beyonce doesn’t use tax payers money. She uses her own, or uses fundraising organisations to do so. People support Beyonce as Beyonce supports them, not because they HAVE to, but because they CHOOSE to. And the human mind shows that in having a choice, they are increasingly likely to co-operate in a divided way. Without immediate acknowledgement, Beyonce actually rattles the government hierarchy and challenges the status quo by not conforming to the elected presidential candidate, news reports and other media forms, but initially standing by herself and having her supporters soon follow her. If this doesn’t speak volume, nothing will. She is the voice of the minorities, but with the minorities, comes minority supporters.
